SBE PRESIDENT THOMAS TO ATTEND NATIONAL MEETING DESPITE CANCER DIAGNOSIS

After a number of months of experiencing sporadic but severe back and neck pain, SBE President Barry Thomas underwent surgery to fortify his cervical spine on August 14. While in the process of receiving treatment, Barry was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a type of cancer that attaches to the spine, ribs and other bones. The surgery to strengthen his cervical spine went well and he is now recovering at home and Barry will begin treatment for the cancer in about a month.

With help from his employer, Lincoln Financial, Barry has begun working from home and will also conduct SBE business in as normal a fashion as possible. He has asked SBE Vice President Vinny Lopez, with help from Immediate Past President Chriss Scherer, to “fill in the gaps” when necessary, which they are doing. In fact, all of the national SBE Board as well as staff have offered their help. Barry still plans to attend and participate in the SBE National Meeting and National Webcast, October 13-15 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Please keep Barry in your thoughts and prayers during these coming months.
