Advanced Broadcast Solutions is pleased to present a presentation on Using IP
Networks for HD Video Transport - Presentation by John McCluskey with T-VIPS.
In this program they will review the market fundamentals, do an initial overview of IP Technology, including the how, the why, and the what, and review the protocols and industry standards for Video transport over IP. They'll also provide an overview of Forward Error Correction (FEC) for IP networks, why and when to consider it, as well as the cost/benefits of using it. Then in summary, they will review actual customer case studies and how they utilize IP networks to meet there contribution and distribution needs. You can learn more at www.t-vips.com Dave Spraker, the new ABS Oregon rep will be on hand as well. Lunch will be provided.

Almost all the presentations are made at the meetings of all three Oregon SBE Chapters.
The Eugene meeting is usually the day after the Portland meeting.
The Medford meeting is usually two days after the Portland meeting.
The Portland meetings are held at lunchtime on the second Tuesday of every month. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. When you get to the Buffalo Gap, go in the SW California Street-side door, turn left, and go upstairs. We have the whole upper floor, which has its own bathrooms. Be sure to get there early, because after the Gap's parking lot fills up you'll be searching the narrow streets for blocks around to find a place to park. For more information on Chapter 124 in Portland/Vancouver/Salem, contact Chapter Chair Ev Helm, e-mail chairman at sbe124 dot org, or call him at 503-977-7752. For a map and directions see http://www.sbe124.org/SBE124_maps.html .

From Chris Murray, Chair, Oregon Emergency Communications Committee
The question asked was … “Will the EAN test scheduled for November 9th substitute the required monthly test for that month”
My immediate answer was “I do not know, it's not in Part 11, has not been done, I will ask.”
Today I got the answer from Bonnie Gay the EAS person at the FCC and verified by Tom Beers policy chief at the F.C.C. The answer was, yes it’s not in the rules but …“Yes the November 9th EAN will be in lieu of the required monthly test for November.”
The scheduled RMT date was the 3rd of November and the back-up date is November 9th. We could schedule November 15th for the make-up day, in the event the EAN for some reason goes south. I do not believe it will. We will all gather our results on November 10th and go from there.

Kent, I thought you and the folks back home would enjoy some photos of my work at FOB Camp Leatherneck Afghanistan. The tandem larger dishes were setup before I got here but the smaller dish is all mine. I had that thing put together, up and running in about 8 hours. This was an "emergency dish install" or so they say. All three of these provide data/VoIP/VTC services in support of the LOGCAP IV task order for the US military. The 2 tandem dishes are 10 Mb/s upload and 10 Mb/s download. Riverbed Steelhead ethernet traffic shapers or accelerators are used to manage and shape the ethernet traffic inbound and outbound. the smaller dish is only a 1532x1532, and all three are TDMA circuts.
enjoy!
